PL/SQL Developer

A PL/SQL Developer is a specialist in developing and managing databases using PL/SQL (Procedural Language/SQL), an extensible SQL-based programming language developed by Oracle. This role is essential in companies that use Oracle technology to manage data and automate business processes.

A PL/SQL Developer’s responsibilities include writing and optimizing PL/SQL code to create stored procedures, functions, packages, and triggers. They work closely with business analysts and database administrators to understand application requirements and ensure effective systems integration. A PL/SQL Developer must also perform unit testing and participate in the validation of developed solutions, ensuring they meet performance and security standards.

The technical skills required for a PL/SQL Developer include a thorough knowledge of SQL, PL/SQL, and Oracle database architecture. Query optimization and problem diagnosis skills are also essential because the performance of applications depends on the efficiency of the code written. In addition, it is important that the developer is familiar with database management tools such as Oracle SQL Developer or TOAD.

In terms of education, most PL/SQL Developers have a degree in computer science or related fields. Oracle certifications, such as Oracle Database SQL Certified Associate, are often valued by employers. A successful PL/SQL Developer must be an effective communicator, able to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and approach technical challenges with creativity and determination.
